“To grow, you must be willing to let your present and future be totally unlike your past. Your history is not your destiny.” So said author Alan Cohen. This passage is about the flexibility of not only mindset but also willingness to embrace ‘change.’ After all, change is the price of learning. However, change is also resisted quite vigorously by not only leaders but also by their followers.


You have hit a rough patch. It seems that everything you do is not working. You are getting further and further behind from your goals. You have not changed a thing and all of a sudden it doesn’t work. You are beginning to wonder how this could have happen. Then you get that next ‘no’ and you are even thinking that you may have to leave the industry that you love so much. What’s the use? I’m giving up.
“If you love what you do and are willing to do what it takes, it’s within your reach.” Said Steve Wozniak the co-founder of Apple. However, how many of us get up on a Monday morning and one of our very first thoughts are something in the realm of: “I hate Mondays.” Then, four days go by and as you get up, your thought becomes: “Thank God, it’s Friday!” Sound familiar?
I have observed that there has been a lot of wishing, praying and hoping going on today and a lot less of planning, doing and being. In other words, a vast number want to accomplish, or, do something, but take absolutely no ‘action’ to make it a reality.
“Why are you working ‘in’ your business?” A puzzled look is all I got back. I sat in their office in silence awaiting an answer. My client finally stated: “Not sure what you mean. Am I not supposed to grow my business?” “Absolutely!” was my immediate response. “So, why are you not working ‘on’ your business?” Again, the puzzled look.
